A Gentle Reminder..

A recap for new visitors to the site who would like to know a little more about Ewan and his career story..

Ewan Sherriff is a highly successful commercial lawyer working from a new home of Dubai, UAE . Ewan has accumulated many years commercial experience in several sectors, and this article charts his career progression from his graduation to the present day.

Upon completion of his academic curriculum at the University of Dundee in 1990, Ewan Sherriff relocated to Edinburgh to commence his 2 year articling practicum in Trusts, Residential Property, Litigation and Commercial Property laws with Morison’s LLP; then regarded as a progressive, entrepreneurial firm. In August of 1992, he was deemed professionally competent and was called to the Law Society of Scotland as a fully fledged lawyer.

Having long held an interest in commercial real estate, Ewan made an early career decision to specialize in the commercial sector . He chose to join Semple Fraser in late 1992, due to their concentration of high-profile, cross-border transactions and clientele in Glasgow, Edinburgh and Manchester, UK. During this period Mr Sherriff was a direct assistant to one of the founding Partners, which afforded him exponential experience in the full life-cycle of Commercial Real Estate transactions, from purchase through to Asset Management and leasing.

Ewan was pinpoint recruited by Archibald Campbell & Harley of Edinburgh in 1993, and at the age of 28, he made history as this one hundred year old firm’s youngest Partner, known for it’s forward-thinking attitude and it’s expertise and market commentary. Midway through his eight year tenure at Archibald, Ewan’s professional undertakings became more concentrated on business development. Ewan Sherriff also drafted a full suite of precedents encompassing Commercial Leases, Rent Review Agreements, Licences for Work, Reporting Procedures, Trusts and construction documentation; that continue to be in production.

In the years 2001-2004, Ewan Sherriff was one of sixty-five Partners at the UK-wide firm of Shepherd + Wedderburn. Sherriff focused on increasing his exposure and developing his expertise in the investment and development fields; whilst establishing and maintaining a select client base at this historically blue blood practice. Working out of the Edinburgh location, Ewan was charged with developing the Real Estate Department, which included human resource, accounting, office management, cost management, and budget management cross-functionalities. Mr Sherriff regularly advised on Limited Companies, Limited Partnerships, Jersey Property Unit Trusts, Offshore Vehicles and Trusts, in association with Channel Island colleagues and professionals. He was also widely conversant in all aspects of UK Stamp Duty Land Tax, Single Purpose Vehicles laws and UK & Channel Islands Corporate Governance.

In 2004, Ewan was recruited as a Partner, to implement a new real estate department at Dickson Minto, one of the UK’s leading corporate finance and private equity firms. During his five year career there, Ewan Sherriff created one of the best known, high exposure real estate practices in the UK by regularly transacting fantastic high-profile deals, which subsequently quadrupled turnover and team size within three years of inception.

Here is a snippet of a new article published on ArticlesJam.com recently;

“Ewan Sherriff started his traineeship at Alex Morison & Co in September 1990 and it extended until the end of August 1992.
